Chapter 4 – My Husband Cheated and Humiliated Me for Three Years—Until He Discovered Who His Wife Really Was

Chapter 4: The Execution

The boardroom on the fiftieth floor of Prescott Global was a theater of glass, mahogany, and suffocating tension.

Through the frosted glass walls, I could see them gathering. The twelve members of the board of directors, looking grim and exhausted. And at the head of the massive table stood Aaron. He looked paler than usual, but he wore a bespoke charcoal suit, projecting the desperate arrogance of a king pretending his castle wasn’t on fire.

And standing just behind his right shoulder, holding an iPad like a shield, was Jasmine Cole. She wore a smug, subtle smile. She thought she had won. She thought the Aegis money would cover her tracks forever.

I stood in the antechamber, flanked by Nathan Brooks and Richard Vance.

“They’re starting,” Richard murmured, checking his phone.

Inside, Aaron slammed a folder onto the table. Even through the heavy glass, I could hear the booming, entitled resonance of his voice.

“…and despite the temporary headwinds,” Aaron was saying, pacing at the head of the table, “I have personally secured a private capital injection of eighty-five million dollars from Aegis Capital. The paperwork was finalized last night. We are liquid. We are secure. And I expect a unanimous vote of confidence today to put an end to these ridiculous rumors regarding my leadership.”

An older board member, Arthur Sterling, leaned forward. “Aegis Capital is a vulture fund, Aaron. What did you give them to secure that kind of cash in three days?”

“Nothing that affects the operational control of this board,” Aaron lied smoothly. “Personal guarantees. My skin in the game. It shows my absolute commitment to this company.”

Jasmine nodded approvingly behind him, playing the loyal lieutenant.

I looked at Nathan. “Now.”

Nathan pushed open the heavy oak doors. They swung inward with a heavy, final thud. The entire boardroom fell dead silent. Fourteen heads snapped toward the entrance.

“Excuse the interruption,” Nathan said, his voice carrying the lethal calm of a seasoned litigator. “We are here representing Aegis Capital.”

Aaron’s face contorted in confusion, then absolute fury as I stepped out from behind Nathan and Richard. I smoothed the lapels of my midnight-blue suit and walked into the room. The click of my Louboutin heels against the hardwood floor sounded like a ticking clock.

“Claire?” Aaron sputtered, his voice cracking. The veins in his neck bulged. “What the hell is this? Security! How did she get up here?”

“I wouldn’t call security, Aaron,” I said smoothly, taking a seat directly across from him at the opposite end of the long table. I placed a thick, black leather folder on the mahogany surface. “It’s bad form to throw out your largest creditor.”

A murmur of shock rippled through the board members. Arthur Sterling adjusted his glasses, staring at me. “Mrs. Prescott? You represent Aegis?”

“I own forty percent of Aegis Capital, Mr. Sterling,” I said, letting the words hang in the air. “A gift from my late grandfather that I kept… discrete.”

Aaron gripped the edge of the table, his knuckles turning white. He looked like he had been struck by lightning. “You… you’re Aegis? You approved the loan?”

“I approved the trap, Aaron,” I corrected gently. I opened the black folder. “And unfortunately, I’m here to inform the board that as of 8:00 a.m. this morning, Prescott Global is in catastrophic default of its loan covenants.”

Chaos erupted. Board members shouted. Jasmine dropped her iPad; it clattered loudly onto the floor.

“Default?!” Aaron roared over the noise. “We just signed the papers twelve hours ago! You haven’t even transferred the funds!”

“We aren’t transferring the funds,” Richard Vance spoke up, stepping forward. “Because during our final due diligence last night, we uncovered material fraud. Millions of dollars systematically embezzled from Prescott Global over the last eighteen months.”

I pulled a stack of documents from the folder and slid them down the polished table. They scattered like autumn leaves. Bank records. Wire transfers. Emails.

“You’ve been bleeding out, gentlemen,” I addressed the board, my eyes fixed on Aaron. “Through phantom consulting firms and offshore accounts. Money siphoned directly from your operating budget.”

“That’s a lie!” Aaron shouted, looking wildly at the board. “Claire is insane! I told you she was having a breakdown! This is a forged smear campaign!”

“Is it?” I asked softly. I looked past him, directly into the horrified, pale face of Jasmine Cole. “Ask your ‘dedicated executive assistant,’ Aaron. Ask her about Kensington Corp.”

Jasmine took a physical step backward, her perfectly manicured hands trembling. “Aaron… she’s making this up…”

“Page four of that packet,” Nathan instructed the board loudly. “Contains undeniable, decrypted communications between Ms. Cole and the executive vice president of Kensington Corp, selling Prescott’s proprietary algorithms in exchange for direct deposits to a Cayman account. Totaling over twelve million dollars.”

Aaron slowly, mechanically, turned around to look at Jasmine. For the first time in his privileged, insulated life, I saw the exact moment his reality shattered.

“Jasmine?” Aaron whispered.

She didn’t answer him. She looked at the door, calculating her escape route like a cornered rat.

“Because of this massive, undisclosed financial fraud,” I continued, my voice commanding the room, “Aegis Capital is exercising its right to call the debt immediately. Since the company cannot pay, and since Aaron Prescott personally guaranteed the loan…”

I stood up, walking slowly around the table until I was standing inches away from the man who had treated me like a ghost for three years. He smelled of cold sweat and expensive cologne.

“I am executing the collateral agreement,” I whispered, just loud enough for the board to hear. “I am seizing your shares, Aaron. I am seizing your trust. I am seizing it all.”

Aaron sank into his chair, his mouth opening and closing soundlessly. He looked from me, to the documents, to Jasmine, who was currently being cornered by two board members demanding answers.

I leaned down, placing my hands on the arms of Aaron’s chair, trapping him. I brought my lips close to his ear.

“You thought the Slack message was my revenge,” I whispered, my voice dripping with venom. “You thought I was just a bitter wife throwing a tantrum. You never realized, Aaron. The Slack message wasn’t revenge.”

I stood up straight, looking down at his broken, hollow eyes.

“It was just my resignation letter.”

I turned on my heel and walked toward the heavy oak doors, not looking back as the boardroom exploded into a frenzy of shouting, accusations, and the sound of Aaron Prescott’s empire crumbling to dust.
